Introduced by the Moors, azulejos (earthenware wall tiles, originally decorated in blue or polychrome) were adopted by the Portuguese when their king Manuel I, during a visit to the Alhambra palace in the south of the Spain, was conquered by the dazzling beauty of the decorative tiles. Manuel I ordered the immediate decoration, with similar tiles, of the walls of his palace.

Azul transports you to the 16th century, trowel in hand, to embellish the walls of the Royal Palace of Evora!

In the game, players alternate turns by drafting colored tiles that come from merchants to place them on their personal board. Later in the round, players score points based on how they placed the tiles on the palace. Additional points are scored for creating particular shapes and collecting families. The wasted resources lower the points. The player with the most points wins!
